WildAid is delighted to welcome Uganda’s national football team defender Bevis Mugabi as a wildlife ambassador. Bevis has represented the Uganda Cranes since making his debut in 2018. He plays his club football with Motherwell Football Club in Scotland, United Kingdom. Bevis was previously at the Southampton academy in England with fellow WildAid ambassador Victor Wanyama.

At Motherwell, Mugabi is nicknamed the Prince of Uganda. In 2021 he broke the record held by Cristiano Ronaldo for the highest ever goal-scoring jump, leaping 8 feet and 6 inches[1] (2.62m) to score a winning goal for Motherwell.

Bevis is passionate about lending his voice to support social and environmental causes and believes that those with a platform should speak out to influence others. Bevis is looking forward to exploring more of Uganda, including visiting the country’s stunning national parks that are home to mountain gorillas, lions and elephants, among other endangered wildlife.

Bevis joins WildAid to defend wildlife against illegal trading and smuggling in an upcoming campaign launching this year. Look out for more content with Bevis and other football stars in the coming months on WildAid’s social media channels.

WildAid is an international wildlife conservation charity that specializes in mass media campaigns to protect wildlife, like elephants, rhinos, lions and pangolins, that are threatened by illegal trade. The illegal wildlife trade is a multi-billion dollar global industry largely driven by consumer demand in expanding economies. While many wildlife conservation groups focus on scientific studies and anti-poaching efforts, WildAid works to reduce global consumption of wildlife products and to increase local support for conservation efforts.

WildAid continues extends its appreciation to its partners and ambassadors in Uganda and globally, who enable them  to widen the reach and impact of their campaigns.

About WildAid

WildAid is a non-profit organization with a mission to protect wildlife from illegal trade and other imminent threats. While most wildlife conservation groups focus on protecting animals from poaching, WildAid primarily works to reduce global consumption of wildlife products such as elephant ivory, rhino horn and shark fin soup. With an unrivaled portfolio of celebrity ambassadors and a global network of media partners, WildAid leverages more than $308 million in annual pro-bono media support with a simple message: When the Buying Stops, the Killing Can Too.
