One of Africa’s biggest Afrobeat stars, Adewale Mayowa, popularly known as “Mayorkun”, has joined WildAid as an ambassador for our Nigerian campaign.

Mayorkun joins his former record label boss, Davido, and other influential Nigerian ambassadors such as Stephanie Linus, comedienne Emmanuela and football player Alex Iwobi, to raise awareness about the illegal trade of bushmeat in Nigeria.

Mayorkun started his music career as a songwriter and pianist in Lagos, Nigeria. In his early career days, he deployed Twitter to remake popular songs. In 2016, the strategy paid off when Davido discovered him on Twitter and signed Mayorkun to his record label, Davido Music Worldwide. Later that year, Mayorkun won the Rookie of the Year at Nigeria’s most significant music awards, The Headies. His debut album, the Mayor of Lagos, reached Number 15 on the Billboard World Album Charts. In Nigeria, the album won the best R&B or Pop album at the Headies in 2019.

In October 2021, Mayorkun signed a new record deal with UK-based Columbia Records and released his sophomore album, Back in Office, to critical acclaim.

Mayorkun will help raise awareness about the illegal consumption of bushmeat in Nigeria, especially among his fans, majorly Millennials and Gen Zs.
